In 2010, an international campaign will be launched on the need for
equal treatment of short-term contractors and regular workers. The
campaign “Same job, same treatment!” will be launched by
five workers organisations in Belgium, Cambodia, Indonesia and Sri
Lanka, respectively World Solidarity, C.CAWDU, Garteks, NWC Sri Lanka
and YCW Sri Lanka.
The main objectives of the campaign are to:
- Raise awareness on the problems of short-term contract workers in
the garment sector; both towards the garment sector workers, employers
and buyers, as well as towards national governments and other
policymakers.
- Organise short-term contract workers in the garment sector within
Cambodia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka and protect them from exploitation.
- Promote equal treatment of long and short-term contract workers in
national legislation and labour policies, in line with the ILO
Recommendation no. 198/ 2006 and the ILO Declaration on ‘Social Justice
for a Fair Globalization’, and make sure this legislation is
implemented!
- Do advocacy work towards international institutions, such as the
International Labour Organisation and the World Bank.
Policy recommendations at national and international level are
formulated in order to improve the situation of these vulnerable
workers. A signature card is developed in order to raise
awareness amongst short-term contract and regular workers, and will be
used in advocacy work towards national and international policymakers.
The first symbolic amount of signatures, together with a policy paper,
will be handed over to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on
June 2010 during the ILO Conference. It will be one of the first steps
in our advocacy work planned for 2010. download the policy
