After the tragic earthquake that hit Haiti, we decide that we can not remain indifferent. World Solidarity reacts through the YCW Haiti (Young Christian Workers - Haiti) and CTH (Confederation of Haitian Workers), supported for several years by our organization. Please join with us in this initiative!
Haiti, already regarded as the poorest country in the entire American continent, is once again the victim of a natural disaster plunging into a deep chaos. On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, an earthquake of magnitude 7 has struck the West Island, the epicentre located at 16km away from the capital. The centre of Port-au-Prince is largely destroyed, the population is in shock, and many ways of communication for the victims are cut off.
World Solidarity, decided to respond and mobilize around the emergency. A first project is immediately mobilized to support victims of the disaster by one of our partner organizations, MOSCHTA (Socio-Cultural Movement of Haitian Workers), which defends the rights of Haitian workers in Dominican Republic. Thursday, January 14, a delegation had already assumed leadership of Haiti with a mobile clinic and medical staff. The help they could provide is essential for our Haitian partners since it is the only one they have received in the hours of their need.
World Solidarity for years has supported the Haitian people through two partners, YCW (Young Christian Workers) and CTH (Confederation of Haitian Workers). Both of these social movements have their buildings located in the historic town of Port-au-Prince and are ruined today. The news is mixed: most employees of the CTH we heard from are alive but had lost everything. For the YCW, it seems that most leaders are unhurt, but their place is destroyed. The CTH training centre based in Pétionville already collects 400 people who have lost everything, while it can accommodate barely a hundred beds.
After this tragic earthquake that literally put Haiti on the ground, it is urgent: the need for medical care, equipment (sheets, mattresses, lamps, batteries, etc.) and are desperate for food. With a small gesture on your part, we can give them this support.
After the emergency needs in a second phase, the money raised will go towards the operations of reconstruction. We will keep you on time projects that we implement:
